Your “Oh Well; When Do Euro Knockouts Start?” Wednesday Open Thread

NFL Reportings:

  • Pete Carroll once again says Russell Wilson is really, really, really dialled in. Usually when a coach is that effuse, I’m going to drop said player from my fantasy roster.
  • Keeping Jim Caldwell was an “easy decision”, according to Lions new GM Bob Quinn. “Finding” Jim Caldwell proved a more difficult task, so waiting for him to show up is probably the right call.
Plus, Martha Ford stole his soul.
  • First Joe Flacco, now actual-elite player Adrian Peterson is talking about how mentally grinding off-season preparations are. He is about 6600 yards shy of Emmitt Smith’s record, so that’s a salient point in the equation.
  • Getting ready for Cowboys training camp is Joseph Randle, who picked up a charge of threatening a sheriff’s deputy while already in jail on other charges. Oh sure, the Cowboys released him last year, but ol’ Double J knows when a man has turned his life around and deserves another chance.
  • The Cavs had their parade today, and Jim Brown, Earnest Byner & Bernie Kosar showed up as well.

Finally, Chris Mortensen is going to be given the Dick McCann Award by the Pro Football Writers Association, and will get recognition at the Hall Of Fame enshrinement in August.

Well, that’s about it, isn’t it.

The USMNT put on a valiant effort for about 2 minutes last night, and then Argentina started putting them away, with the dagger being this piece of brilliance by Lionel Messi: (Russian feed because US feed blocked by geolocating.)

Goddamned magic.

So, since no one cares about third place, it’s time for people to care about the Euro knockout stages, where it’s one-and-done and the freewheeling nautre of the first games gives way to boring tactical play and lots of 1-0 or shootout victories.

This twitter account following the matches live is fantastic. And read fellow Commentist litre_cola’s account of being at this fixture, the third in his series on catching matches & kicking habits. Lucky bastard.

If you want to feel icky, released today was the inventory police seized from the Neverland Ranch in November 2003, an 88 page dossier of disturbing images and documents, which somehow never crossed into public view until early this morning. Here’s a link to the list, and that has a link to the images. Here’s all you need to know if you are curious about clicking through:

Michael Jackson’s California home contained a considerable stash of pornography as well as sexual imagery featuring children, S&M and animal torture, according to purported police reports. The horrid list included books stuffed with images of nude children, sadomasochism, and even strangely morphed images of children’s faces on naked adults.

Tonight’s Sports:

  • Copa: Colombia vs Chile – 8:00 – Soldier Field
  • NHL: Awards Ceremony – 7:00 – NBCSN; SN (Canada)
    • from Las Vegas; expect the franchise announcement to be made official
      • with a cringe-worthy “roll of the dice” reference from Gary Bettman
    • hosted by Will Arnett
    • list of nominees here.

As always,

I WRECKED A CAR AGAINST WHILE LISTENING TO THIS SONG IN 1978.

TRUE STORY. NO INJURIES. I GOT IN DEEP SHIT TROUBLE WITH MY PARENTS.

THE TREE STILL LIVES TO THIS DAY.

Brick Meathook

*A TREE* obviously (that killed the joke)

Brick Meathook

Still a true story, though.

theeWeeBabySeamus

Shit, I thought I was old. I didn’t have my driver’s license for another four years. Thank you for this….LMAO.

What the heck is wrong with the 70s?

http://youtu.be/-Qu8RPvhP-U

And I know the ELO song came first, and both songs use the “I was walkin’ (walkin’)” motif.

Bryan Cranston wasn’t called for Batman v Superman, oh but he’s in the Power Rangers movie? Jesus.

theeWeeBabySeamus

LMAO…I’ll never be able to think about the Power Rangers again without thinking about those five Asian guys trying to all dress in different colors.
/realizes he sounds high again to anyone who didn’t see the linked youtube vid in question

He would have been a perfect comissioner Gordon. I know this because I saw him do the voice of Commissioner Gordon in Batman: Year 1

Shit…I seem to have landed squarely in the mid to late 70s. Welp, at least STDs could be cured back then…mostly.

Hmmm, interesting. But I think ELO has the copyright date in their favor if it ever goes to court.

Moose -The End Is Well Nigh

“Sweet Talkin’ Woman” is a 1978 single by Electric Light Orchestra from the album Out of the Blue. Its original title was “Dead End Street”, but it was changed during recording, perhaps to avoid confusion with a 1966 hit of the same title by The Kinks. Some words that survived from that version can be heard in the opening of the third verse, “I’ve been livin’ on a dead end street”.

“Do You Believe in Love” is the first top-ten hit for the American rock band Huey Lewis and the News, peaking at number seven in May 1982, off their second album Picture This. It was written by Robert John “Mutt” Lange.

Neither is original anything.

Is it gay if I throw my boxer briefs at Tom Jones?
Yes? Fuck it….

Moose -The End Is Well Nigh

No; it’s is an acknowledgement of history.

*Watch your balls; his fans are CRAZY.

theeWeeBabySeamus

Inorite?
I have vague (thank god) memories of my mother having a thing for him when I was a kid.

theeWeeBabySeamus

Strangely, both are two of my favorite songs and I never connected them.
I gotta get out more.

Moose -The End Is Well Nigh

Never cared for either band much, but hey; I still want that mix tape you are making.

theeWeeBabySeamus

I wasn’t aware I was making one, but hey, why not?

Moose -The End Is Well Nigh

You should wait a while before you take another hit, man.

theeWeeBabySeamus

Shit…I wish I was fucked up. I’m smoked out. Gotta see a guy about a thing tomorrow in fact.

theeWeeBabySeamus

Speaking of which….

WTF is this shit I’m just now learning about that Colorado won’t sell more than a 1/4 oz to out of staters???? I’m passing thru next month and I was NOT happy to learn this. Now I gotta hit like a dozen dispensaries on my way thru the state. That’s just wrong.

Moose -The End Is Well Nigh

The neighboring states threatened to sue.
