Your “Well, The Sun Came Up” Wednesday Evening Open Thread

NFL News:

  • More fallout from Seattle Monday Night-gate, 2016-edition:
    • Florio is doing the Lord’s Goodell’s work this morning by having TWO stories quoting Mike Pereira about why having full-time officials wouldn’t be worth it. He cites costs & which refs might give up their full-time job, and relative improvement in accuracy.
      • When asked what a side judge would do all week to get better, Pereira told nugget baron Peter King “Read the rule book? Watch a lot more tape?” in another attempt to curry favour with his (former) master.
    • Oh, and it turns out Buffalo’s spike was technically illegal under the rules.
      • I’m sure it makes Rex feel better to know he got one in his favour.
  • Stadium boondoggles:
    • San Diego escaped theirs.
      • the Spanos family released a letter through the Chargers website. You can read it here, but the money quote is:
        • “In terms of what comes next for the Chargers, it’s just too early to give you an answer. We are going to diligently explore and weigh our options, and do what is needed to maintain our options, but no decision will be announced until after the football season concludes and no decision will be made in haste.”
    • Arlington passed theirs. So their 22 year-old current baseball stadium will soon be mothballed.

To close out your football coverage on a slight election note: as expected, the marijuana statutes passed in California, Florida and Massachusetts, bringing the number of teams that play in pro-pot states (medicinal or recreational) to 10. The League still stands by its position that federal still prohibits all use, and that will remain their League-wide standard.

A couple of things about last night’s results:

  • Of all the places I looked, Cracked has the best answer to how what happened happened.
  • A fair amount of class in both Trump’s acceptance speech and Clinton’s concession speech.

I’m already seeing #Michelle2020 on the Twitter.

I’m not going to lie, I never saw Trump being elected. Perhaps it’s the Canadian / impassioned-foreigner-with-an-interest in me, but I never figured he had a serious chance outside the traditionally red states. For all his foibles, Reagan had governing experience prior to running for the nomination (1976) and winning (1980). I guess time will tell if it was more pro-Trump or anti-Hillary that pushed blue-states red.

I guess in Hillary people saw this

And in Trump, people saw this.

There’s four years to determine if it’ll be this,

this,

this,

or this.

I did not enjoy watching the exchange rate plummet and my pension drop 10% overnight. But, since I never planned to retire in Mississippi or the Carolinas, I’m not too concerned about that, and I doubt the expected drop in 2017 tourism concerns the America First crowd. Whadda you think, Joe?

Just saw NOFX. They aren’t angry, they are embarrassed and sad.

I am watching Doctor Strange… obviously at the theater. I am shrinking my sleep time to barely anything with this decision.

God, I favorited entropy’s comment about You’re the Worst and the not understanding of the characters getting in this fight. I realized I missed last weeks because of some baseball game or my dog was sick or something. Just caught up, I stick with my not loving the storyline but it is somehow much worse now.

I mean worse in both ways, in emotional relationship to the story and contrived.

“I just found out that my grandmother voted for Clinton. I would have liked to talk to her about it, but she died 7 years ago.”

I know this is supposed to be a Trump-bashing thread, but I couldn’t help it.

HOW’D THAT FEEL?! REAL ENOUGH YA LITTLE ASSHOLE???

Enough of this “How do I explain to the children” trope / sermon-framer. Can’t get to the message because all I think is that it’s impossible for the brat(s) to respect your cluelessness / pontificatin’.

“You see, children, when a man and a woman hate this country very, very much, they both decide to fuck it over as hard as they can, in very different ways…..”

There are so many Old Reliables too! “Them’s the breaks; grow a pair you pussy” is very effective with daughters.

“What the fuck are you doing out of the kitchen? And who the hell said you could wear SHOES?!”
