Your “I Can’t Believe I Haven’t Used This Yet” Wednesday Evening Open Thread

NFL News:

  • Seems like it’s going great so far: Giants #1 pick Daniel Jones was booed at Yankee Stadium yesterday. He laughed it off, saying the best way to make them be quiet will be to perform well on the field.
    • Taking it personally? Giants GM Dave Gettleman, who sounds like an aggrieved Trump supporter:
      • “Every once in a while, I wish the people taking the shots would take a minute to look at my résumé. I’ve been a part of teams that went to seven Super Bowls. I had a hand in some of them. But today, there’s no patience. And there’s no room for civil discourse in our society, which I find sad.”
  • Either keeping loose or trying to force Roger Goodell’s hand, Tom Brady is working out with Josh Gordon.
    • Gordon was indefinitely suspended back in December for violating the terms of his reinstatement.
      • The Pats did sign him to a one-year, $2.025 million contract this offseason, so they think he might be back at some point, despite the league having no updates on the situation.

Assorted musings:

I had a good day at Deadspin, commenting on their aghastness at NHL management by making reference to an oft-discussed topic here:

If you aren’t following Super 70s Sports on the Twitter, you’re missing out on gems like this:

While looking around for a cover picture for tonight’s thread, I came across video that verified something I had completely forgotten – Barry Fucking Manilow sang the national anthem at Super Bowl XVIII.

Back when both these teams weren’t jokes.

Not exactly a classic version, I still think he did a good job because he didn’t give us the Bleeding Gums Murphy version others have since provided.

Unsurprised

I heard something earlier that I’ve thought about before that explains a lot not just about why my dieting hasn’t been progressively successful to the point of being tWBS’s weight but also other shit, and that is that once I were skinny or medically well, I’d have no one or nothing else to blame for the rest of my shitty self.

theeWeeBabySeamus

Shit!! I been cut already?

OK, runner on first. Batter grounds up the middle but the defense was in a shift.
Ball went just to right of second base, then fielded and thrown to second, then to first for the double play.

Score it.

theeWeeBabySeamus

Because of the shift, SS was in short right. He fielded the grounder. Then threw to 2nd for the force, but it was the thirdbaseman covering, then it got doubled back to first.

6-5-3 is the correct scoring.

theeWeeBabySeamus

If you’ve ever scored baseball, you know how weird that is.

yeah right

Day off!

Eldest granddaughter right is being “promoted” tomorrow.

They don’t “graduate” any more they get promoted.

Which is actually a good introduction into business speak.

She’s going into high school.

I’m certain that with my positive influence she’ll be fine.

And not a heroin addict.

God help us all.

I shared an Uber ride from Downtown L.A. to El Segundo with yeah right after the DFO bar crawl. yeah right sat in the front seat and told the very nice young driver about all the concerts he had been to. I sat in the back seat half-asleep from three beers and more sun than a L.A. beach guy is used to during the June Gloom. After he dropped off yeah right the Uber driver drove another five minutes to the shitty part of Playa del Rey and dropped me off. That driver was most definitely changed and inspired by listening to yeah right’s stories about concerts and life and so forth. It was the right conversation in the right place at the right time. I was there. I saw it.

Unsurprised

The benefit of being a fatass is taking a lot to get drunk. Or maybe I was and didn’t know it.

For someone who lives on the east coast, but visits whenever possible….let me just say how much I love Ralph’s.

theeWeeBabySeamus

Stater Bros is a close second.

yeah right

Every Sunday Gravy is driven by Ralph’s!

Unsurprised

I’d be up for that endorsement/sponsorship.

theeWeeBabySeamus

How weird is it that I’m watching a replay of a baseball game played earlier just so I can do the umpiring?
O’s and A’s scoreless in the fifth….like 12 hours ago.

theeWeeBabySeamus

(yes, I already know how it ends)
((Shut up))

Mr. Ayo

So you already know the umpires weren’t the problem?

theeWeeBabySeamus

Trust me, yes.

At one time in my 20’s I considered going into umpiring. This was after my career as a third baseman with second baseman’s arm, who by the way was barely a .200 hitter…. Went kaput. Can you imagine????

Anyway, I went grad school instead. But I still enjoy calling games.

theeWeeBabySeamus

I’ve got all my scorecards, and I do mean all. Always bring ’em home and stick ’em in a bag. OK that seems maybe a little….ok…what’s the word I’m looking for?

Fronkenshteen

Wotsit smell like under Kate Abdo’s flares? Coconut? Vanilla? Dragonfruit?

Wakezilla

Canada has never looked this good for Mexico. They actually tried the Wakezilla approach in Mexico and tried to score despite being around Mexicans that are out of his league. (And they did!)

This is progress.

Hot Taek: Ice Eskimos’ Connor McDavid never should have been nominated for the Hart because his team finished in like 30th and I don’t even think he was the leading goal scorer on his team.

Also, there’s this:

On the other hand, while McDavid didn’t win any Ice Football awards, he did win a pair of Golden Globes.
Call it a wash?
