The Bleergh Report – Week 8

ALL HAIL BLEERGH.

In tribute to Bleergh, here’s the week eights’s best and worst penalties. Here’s a random breakdown of this weeks penalties.  I may or may not try to find the tape for these, nor am I making any judgement call on the individual penalties.  I’m sure that there are plays that should have been called and were not, and other plays where the penalty wasn’t needed, depending on your fandom.  This is mainly me looking a some numbers and publishing my findings, so let me know if there’s something you would like to see added or removed to the list.

Here are the bestest (in the eyes of Bleergh) penalties of the week:

Team Penalty Result
GB OFFENSIVE HOLDING TD nullified
NO OFFENSIVE HOLDING TD nullified
SF OFFENSIVE PASS INTERFERENCE TD nullified
DEN UNNECESSARY ROUGHNESS FIELD GOAL nullified
TB DEFENSIVE PASS INTERFERENCE PICKERCEPTION nullified

These plays have multiple flags.  This pleases Bleergh.

*note that the zeros are penalties called from previous weeks but still in the list.  Way too lazy to remove them and it ups my word count. Ha.

Offensive holding with over 21% of the total penalties called this week, way down from week 7 of 28%.

Total number of penalties are up from 201 last week to 2040 this week with 2 teams on bye.

NFL rule explained

New to the ever growing penalty list this week is “Delay of Kickoff”.  It’s pretty much what you expect, in that the kick off didn’t happen before the play clock expired.  Still a fun one and it happened to NE of all teams.  I assume this is the last we’ll see Mike Nugent.

ALL HAIL BLEERGH.

One of the “horse collar” tackles.

BULLSHIT.

But there we have it.

I’m sure at full speed it looked like a donkey collar.

That roughing the passer for 4 yards must have felt pretty good for the guy that did it.

Horatio Cornblower

There isn’t a defensive player, coach, or coordinator in the league that wouldn’t trade 4 yards for a chance to level Brady or Rodgers.

Fixed that for you.

Ah yes, I had forgotten ‘The Jets Corollary’ Point well made.

Mike Nugent? More like Mike New-Gent, amirite? Cause he’s gonna get fired and replaced with a newer gentleman! Get it? Ha ha ha ha ha yeah!

[and since it’s the Patriots, he’ll probably be replaced with Roberto Aguayo, who will have a career resurgence and go on to have a fifteen year Pro Bowl career]

Aw shucks….. more defensive touching….. sure.

Nein means one more than eight?

Moose -The End Is Well Nigh

Sorry I meant “defensive holding”

Shit, that made it worse.

Maybe the penalty should be ‘defensive struggle cuddle’

Okay, maybe not.
