Normally I am more attracted to petite girls. But every now and again I find myself looking slightly upwards and thinking… yeah ok, fine by me. Let’s do this.
Never happens, though. Most tall girls don’t like it when they’re taller than their date. Trust me.
Meh, you can’t have everything. Climbing trees was easy as a kid. Not so much as an adult.
But in all seriousness, I think Karlie Kloss is very attractive. But even more than that she has a social conscience.
In 2015 she started a foundation called Kode With Klossy. On its surface it is intended to teach young girls how to code for computers/programming. But it’s more than that. It gives these young girls who might otherwise be fearful of entering into any field dominated by men, a sense of belonging. A sense of capability. It shows them that they are just as good and they can do anything they set their minds to do.
I think that’s a good thing.
So even though she’s taller than me, and if she were in heels I’d have to jump up just to look her in the eyes (and boy oh boy would that get tiresome…SIT DOWN GIRL!!!!) I admire her a great deal for giving back. For empowering young girls who might otherwise not have the support or the opportunities.
She’s a good person. And she’s smart. Even if she is a freak and a giant.

So I had a follow-up appt with the podiatric surgeon today. I’d been pretty depressed recently because it just didn’t seem like I was healing at a pace that seemed reasonable (i.e. seemed like no progress at all, aside from the incisions healing quickly and cleanly). The surgeon was very pleased with the “progress,” said after looking at the x-rays that the bones were fusing nicely, and that after another three weeks (!) of putting no weight on it, I might even be able to start doing so and maybe even be able to drive. Come on February 7th!
Having never had a broken bone in my 60 trips around the sun, I didn’t understand that it takes 8-10 weeks for them to knit, and the fusion of foot bones requires a similar amount of time. Stir crazy, rat in a cage, cabin fever, call it what you will, I gots it. It was nice to get out of the house today, even if it was just to go to the doc’s and subsequently sit in the car while my chauffeuring friend went into the liquor store to restock my cabinet, took me to the drive thru for a Schlotzsky’s, and went into the county office to pay my property taxes.
Then an old buddy of mine who spent 24 years in the Navy (compared to my four) came by a bit later and we downed a couple bottles of cabernet and told sea stories. He did 12 years enlisted, then the Navy sent him to school for a BSci in nuclear physics, and he subsequently served an additional 12 as a line/surface warfare officer. He has the best sea stories of just about any ex-squid I know.
Cherry on the sundae of the week: HEB grocery delivers, and I find that they also deliver alcohol, so I’ll never run out of wine. Just need to find a liquor store that will deliver the scotch and the rum, and I’ll never have to leave the house.
