Your “Such Anger So Early In The Week” Monday Evening Open Thread

NFL Nuggetry:

  • Franchise Taggery!
    • The Jags are going to use a tag on Yannick Ngakoue.
      • He responded by tweeting, “The Jaguars are aware I no longer have interest in signing a long-term contract in Jacksonville. Duval, I love you and gave you guys everything I got. I’m thankful for the journey and look forward to continuing my career elsewhere.”
      • The thinking is that the Jags will use the tag to heighten trade interest, and get something akin to what they got for Jalen Ramsey.
        • Frank Clark is the 2019 example.
      • According to ESPN, the franchise tag for his position carries an approximate salary of $19.3 million in 2020.
    • The Bengals are going to tag A.J. Green, despite having no one at present to throw him the ball.
      • Joe Burrow seems interested in having a Pro Bowl target on the field for his rookie season.
        • “I think with any rookie quarterback, the more help you can get, the better, and A.J.’s been one of the best players at his position for a very long time,” Burrow said.
      • The tag is estimated to be worth around $18.5 million.
  • Free agent stupidity!
    • Both Peter King and Mike Florio are trying to promote a Brady-to-the-Niners rumour that seems downright laughable:
      • King’s scenario:
        • Both Brady & Garoppolo play 2020 for the Niners.
          • Jimmy G has $15.7 million in salary guaranteed for 2020.
            • If he’s a backup, he never hits his bonus clauses, which will surely want to make him stick around after Brady leaves.
        • He envisions a Manning – Osweiler situation.
      • Florio’s scenario:
        • Garoppolo would be traded. (Possibly back to the Patriots.)
          • His cap hit for the new team is an affordable $25.4 million compensation package for 2020, plus the next year at $25.5 million and then one more season at $25.6 million.
          • The 49ers would absorb a cap charge of only $4.2 million, thanks to a low signing bonus.
  • Collective Bargaining Animus!
    • Giants OT Nate Solder is leading the “Yes” movement for the new CBA.
      • “It’s a great deal for core players,” he says.
        • “Minimum salaries would go up significantly, with bumped-up benefits for current players and retired players. We’d increase the practice squad [from 10 to 14 by 2022] . Work rules would improve.”
      • Here’s where the divide amongst players emerges:
        • “You have a couple of guys on Twitter who have millions of followers criticizing the deal. Other guys who support it might have 5,000 followers. Their voices aren’t loud. In some ways, I’m trying to be a voice for the voiceless,” Solder said.

Hey, don’t feel bad. Bernie got (checks notes) Marianne Williamson, an anti-vaxxer to stump for him during a plague, so…that’s good too!

Flat earthers on Monday….. fantastic.

They should be fed to the gators; it certainly wouldn’t stop stupidity, but it would trim a branch.

Gratliff

I somehow missed this episode the first time through. Holy shit.

WCS

Z’s, “Oh, shit!” is perfect.

Gratliff

He’s my favorite semi-recurring character. It helps that every other role I’ve seen him in is hyper serious.

Gratliff

Also the rare occurrence of being a better version of his walking dead character than in the comic.

herodotus450

They are calling this Wings-Avs game “90s Night” but I haven’t seen even one fight or destabilization of a Balkan state break out.

What is the pubic hair situation?

Horatio Cornblower

It’s a glorious day for Serie A Lesser Footy, as their fans have been banned from attending games in order to fight the coronavirus, as opposed to their usually being banned from attending games for being a pack of racist assholes.

litre_cola

But can Hippo and I still gamble? Serie A is where I make the money. Ligue 1 is a crapshoot, bundesliga has shit odds.

Hippo prefers Bulgarian Div 2 and those folk will never shut their league down.

herodotus450

If the CDC really wanted people to be honest about reporting coronavirus, they would announce that it only targets people with huge, giant penises.

rockingdog

Ummmm
If this coronavirus gets out of hand, will they still play the March Madness NCAA basketball tournament even though there may be no one in the stands?

litre_cola

I have booked days off for debauchery, they sure as hell better play. I ain’t care if there are fans, GAMBLOR must be appeased.

herodotus450

All the players will be forced to wear bubble boy suits

Horatio Cornblower

Real ones, or the imaginary ones all Duke players have persuaded the refs are part of Duke’s uniform?

Unsurprised

They can invite all the students taking the classes U*NC basketball players take

ArmedandHammered

No matter the cost to players, staff, or attendees, in lives or destroyed futures, the NCAA will demand that the money still roll into their undeserving pockets.

scotchnaut

ESPN scroll is telling me that Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 back on this day in 1962. Enough about the chicks, how many points did he get that night?

theeWeeBabySeamus

What always interested me about that game is that is was played in Hershey, PA.
There’s a joke there.

scotchnaut

“There’s a highway that runs through Hershey and Wilt took it several times.”

/it’s like Seamus isn’t even trying these days, smgdh

theeWeeBabySeamus

Hehehehe

Col. Duke LaCross

That’s strong.

herodotus450

Here’s a fun game to play: are any of these Detroit players good enough to be on Colorado’s roster? Only you can decide.

scotchnaut

My son won a contest whereby he had free tickets to any Sens home game the rest of the year. Imagine my disappointment finding out that I couldn’t do a “Boots Grinding The Red Wings Face Into The Ground Forever” post.

herodotus450

Was the contest “having a pulse”? Because Ottawa is so desperate for fans, you see.

scotchnaut

Your ‘Largest Goal Differential in Recent History” is showing. Ouch!

ballsofsteelandfury

Janeane should openly laugh at King and spit in his mochaccino.

scotchnaut

There can’t be a more obvious clickfart article. Of course it involved Peter King’s thought-droppings so it doesn’t involve subtle reasoning.

rockingdog

Found a funny:
hey now
you’re a horse girl
get your mane on
eat hay
hey now
you’re a horse, girl
nail your shoes on
scream neigh

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Oh thank you, you just reminded me of something.
