AFLW Beat – 2020 Round Five

Better Know The Girl

Yeah, I’m being a bit of a homer this week.  Our “guest” this week is none other than the Geelong Cats’ rising star, Nina Morrison.  She good.

(although I am curious about the yo-yo test)

Morrison tested at the AFL Women’s draft combine, breaking records in the two-kilometre time trial and the yo-yo endurance test. She reached level 18.1 in the yo-yo test and ran the time trial in seven minutes and fourteen seconds, fifteen seconds faster than the previous record. Morrison additionally placed in the top five for the standing vertical jump, agility test and running vertical jump (on both the left and right sides).

Welcome To Ball of Steel’s tWBS’ AFL Beat – 2020

Round Five

Friday, March 6

– Gold Coast Suns v Geelong Cats –

Well holy shit, we got us a winning streak on our hands.  Another win or two from Geelong and another loss or two from GWS and the Kitties might get in.  They’ll still get embarrassed horribly before reaching a chance at the Premiership.  But still.  We’re looking for improvement around here.  Two wins in a row.  We’ll take it.

No, I won’t link Geelong’s team song again here.  Even though I do want to.

But you can have this…

(Go Kitties!!!)

Saturday, March 7

– North Melbourne Kangaroos v Adelaide Crows –

Still seemingly on a collision course with Freemantle.  And twice as attractive.  The ‘Roos made short work of Adelaide.  I mean this one was ugly.  61-23.  But sadly not the ugliest this week.  Keep reading. (hint: West Coast stinks)

– GWS Giants v Richmond Tigers –

Another lopsided one.  GWS pounds the Tigers.  It was never close.  56-11.

– Carlton Blues v St. Kilda Saints –

St. Kilda reverts to form.  The Blues gives them the Blues (get it?).  Carlton still a player in the race for the Premiership.  More on that later.  But they take the Saints down fairly easily, 50-29.

Sunday, March 8

– Collingwood Magpies v Western Bulldogs –

The Pies did what had to do to keep a chance at contending.  They’re going to need some help, but IMHO they’re still one of the four best squads.  And if they make up above the cutoff line on the ladder, they could make a run and take the whole enchilada.

Wait, we’re talking Australia.  They could get the whole Vegemite Sandwich.

Yeah, that’s better.

– Melbourne Demon v West Coast Eagles –

This one just wasn’t pretty at all.  And I’m not speaking about the attractive qualities of the players.  But Jeebus.  The Demons more or less decided to humiliate West Coast and they did it.  Big time.  Barely had to break a sweat.  The Demons remain in the running and also remain only one of three other clubs with a realistic shot at taking the Dockers down.

Speaking of whom….

– Freemantle Dockers v Brisbane Lions –

Well lookit this.  Brisbane ran smack into the Dockers.  And kinda got their arses handed to them.  Brisbane isn’t out of the running just yet of course.  But with a draw and a loss over the past three weeks they are looking a lot less reliable.  Freemantle on the other hand looks poised to take Conference B with ease and likely roll through for the Premiership.  50-32, the Dockers put the Lions into “Dry Dock” (get it?)

tWBS’ Predictions, But Also His Vision of What MIGHT Happen.

In other words, I don’t know shit about shit.  But let’s give it a try, shall we?

  1.  No Chance In Hell:  Gold Coast, Richmond, Western, St. Kilda, West Coast.
  2. Slight Chance:  Geelong.  I’d also put Adelaide here, but they have looked terrible the past two weeks.
  3. Good Chance:  Collingwood.  They hit a snag a coupla weeks ago, but recovered nicely this week.
  4. Serious Contenders: Carlton, Melbourne, GWS, Brisbane.  All of these four have had their difficulties, but they’re solid.  Any of them could pop up and take it.
  5. Your Likely Premiership Match?:  Freemantle v North Melbourne.  And I’m going with the Dockers to take the title.

And in a few weeks, when it turns out I’m wrong as usual, I’ll admit it.

Just as soon as I recover from my concussion.

Next Week?  Tricky Week Six.

I agree with you on the Fremantle-Kangaroos Final. It seems inevitable.

litre_cola

I thought you loved AFL due to the unpredictability!!!

ballsofsteelandfury

This AFLW season has been strange because no one knew who would be good before the season started. Now that we’re well into it, it’s clear which teams are the class of the league.

Melbourne: AFLW:: Monterrey:Liga MX

Litre knows what that means.

litre_cola

Fuck Monterrey with a rusty screwdriver sideways. The 1 time I think those phonies are going to show up they blow a yuge lead. Fuck them as much as Collingwood in men’s AFL.
