Well this should be interesting – in my zeal to call out the hated Roger Goodell for what I continue to insist is a fabricated 40 time, one of my friends from poker claimed that he thought he could run a sub 5.0 in the 40 yard dash. Another player similarly thought he could pull it off. So we might put something together for charity: i.e. if they can’t do it I’ll donate $X to charity, if then CAN do it I’ll donate $2X. And vice versa for them, and anyone else who wants to bet on or against them.
It’s going to be interesting, because one was an All-American ballplayer, the other played at the D-league level in the NBA (I think – if not that something pretty close).
I still don’t think either of them can do it, though the NBA guy might – MIGHT – pull it off.

The only way i’m gonna look forward to going back into the office is if the gym gets re-opened too. I had a sweet set-up where I would go run treadmill/work-out for 45 min, then take a shower and change, then have a little 5 minute walk to the office listening to the birds chirp.

Good movie elevated by Phoenix’ performance. Not sure why it was so divisive when it came out unless people read too much into any potential politics of it. It would be nice if they didn’t feel the need to reboot Batman every 43 seconds so they could’ve made this the reboot after the Nolan series ended instead of whatever garbage the “Never going to be the MCU” thing is doing with it.
It fueled a whole Take Industry to the extent that I had no interest in the movie. FunkyLip is a very good actor and I’m sure it’s a well-done flick, but I just can’t so far.

I got my geology degree in December 1988, and since oil was in the shitter price-wise I went to work on my master’s degree. Finally got a job in the oil patch as a well-site geologist in August 1990, during the horizontal oil drilling boom and actually was hired the day after Saddam waltzed into Kuwait. In December 1990 a book came out called The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money, and Power. Excellent story telling, I’ve read it four times since it came out. PBS made an 8 hour documentary out of it, narrated by the original Hawkeye Pierce/Jack Bauer’s dad. It’s streaming on Amazon Prime. Even though the final summary/conclusions of the eighth episode are woefully out of date, the first seven hours, showing the history of the oil industry from the 1850’s through the 1980’s (with a coda updating things related to the Kuwaiti invasion), is really awesome. Full disclosure: early 1990’s production, so 4:3 aspect ratio. Nevertheless, worth a look if you have the opportunity.

Tonight I’m going to make a new batch of onion soup (as I did last week), but this time I made my own beef broth, instead of out of a box.
Then I’m going to have onion soup along with one of my signature steak sandwiches.

My family makes French Onion Soup all the time. Pour French onion soup into bowls or small cups that can be put in own. Put croutons in the soup. Put shredded swiss cheese over the bowls or cups and broil until the cheese is brown.

You can turn a stock into a broth; you can drink broth like soup, but you can’t (or shouldn’t) drink stock. Broth is salted; stock is not.
Stock is rendered down bone tissue and marrow, with just a few aromatics in the water (onion garlic, some herbs, celery – you can also add carrots and parsnips). It is the basis for many many more complex things.
That’s one definition. I’ve also heard that broth is relatively clear and made from non-roasted bones, whereas stock is made from roasted bones and takes on that color. Other sources use the terms interchangeably.
