- Less Than Elite and Wednesday Night Open Thread - December 30, 2020
Well, that was a fun week. Let’s see if we can get back to normal. As I have said, Wednesday is usually my favorite day of the week. Write my silly little column. Watch wrestling. Chat with my invisible internet friends about said wrestling. I got to enjoy none of that last week. The column was especially silly because I wrote it on Tuesday and submitted it early Wednesday before the world caught on fire. Wrestling was nearly impossible to watch because the world was on fire. I actually didn’t watch AEW closely until Thursday. And chat was full of politics. I blame no one, because the world was on fire. So let’s walk carefully across the smoldering embers of last week and talk about wrestling.
To my Canadian friends: Based on the events of this week, I promise to not call you “America’s Hat”. Until the next time I call you “America’s Hat”.
Despite all of that, it was a really good show last week. Both of the Championship matches delivered great action and set up the next challenger. The women’s match for this week with Tay Conti may be a little early for her to challenge for a title, but Serena could get a 4 star match out of a 2×4. I’m still not completely thrilled with how they are treating the AEW women’s title, but this cross-promotion stuff helps.

This week, Jurassic Express were on the AEW podcast, which you can watch on YouTube. Worth your time. PAC is always good. I expect Sting to interfere with the TNT title match. Please don’t ask me what a “young boy” is. My search history is already a national security risk.
This week’s matches:
- PAC vs. Eddie Kingston
- Miro vs. Chuck Taylor (If Chuck loses, then he has to be Miro’s “young boy” until after Kip and Penelope’s wedding)
- “The Waiting Room” with Britt Baker featuring Cody
- FTR (with Tully Blanchard) vs. Jurassic Express (with Luchasaurus)
- Darby Allin (c) vs. Brian Cage with Taz (AEW TNT Championship)
- Serena Deeb (c) vs. Tay Conti (NWA Women’s World Championship)
- The Elite in action
- What is Inner Circle’s New Year’s Resolution?

Senorita Weaselo finished the NG+ of Persona, which gives her enough time to start playing Royal until Strikers comes out.
She’s never going to finish Horizon. Or Ghost of Tsushima. Or Assassin’s Creed Black Flag.
This Pornhub comment just cracked me up:
ould you of wrote that bitch a longer opening monolog? Jesus Christ! I’m tryn to bust a nut not listen to an audio book.
Commenting on pornhub though
It made the Pornhub banner…
[Commenting on Pornhub]…is about as a goddamn

as torturing animals, so … how about we nip this lil’ buddin’ psycho in the bud with a 9mm… It’s the only way to make sure
We really need a return of Infinite Nets for the rest of this season.
Don’t look at me, I’m not gonna do it. I am expecting Peter Rosenberg’s Jim Harden Watch to be a regular segment though.
Question for Joliet Jake that you may have answered already, but I’m old and I forget:
If you’re Cubs and Bears, why not Blackhawks?
Granted, I know they suck ass now, but that wasn’t always the case.
I was all 3 growing up.
Evening folks.
She’s kind of awesome!
Ha, I took a closer look, it’s a he!

That’s a mighty big penis if you can see it from outside the tub!
Noted Indianapolis Colts receiver and concussion-haver Anthony Gonzalez was one of about 10 republicans who voted to impeach today; so we got that going for us.
There are two staff members of DFO serving in Congress*; one voted for impeachment and the other voted against.
*not really but they have the same names.
Oh yeah, I haven’t seen NewtGingrich420 post here in a while.
10 total Republicans voted to impeach; two of them were from Washington State. Post-Trump America may not suck after all.
Okay. This will be crazy.
What a match!
found a funny:
The Nets have now acquired all three types of Brooklyn guy; a weirdly skinny guy, a guy with a huge beard, and a guy who’s obsessed with astrology and conspiracy theories.
I know, I saw that one, and it was dead on.
I don’t understand while Tay Conti is wearing a garter belt under her mesh stockings, with nothing attached to them. I’m not opposed, just confused.
I’m not complaining.
Your Chicago Blackhawks have been declared unfit to play, for the rest of the season. No not because of covid, they just suck.
Who’s even the best Subban in the league these days?
/Malcolm gives up 3 in the first period.
Ok maybe they’re even.
Moxley promo!
Cheer up!

One of the hardest things to pull off in wrestling is a heel vs heel feud. That is what they have set up with the Omega and Good Bros vs Young Bucks story.
This Price Is Right At Night is reaching bananacakes level.
That Range Game!
BANANACAKES ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED
One thing about cinemas being closed due to The Covid is that you don’t see splashy movie ads for movies that you know are going to suck and are trying to suck you in.
Most of them?
My buddy worked at a major theater chain as a manager. He’s furloughed until whenever. The chain is hanging on by a thread.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Range Game separated by a dollar like that. A fraction of a second earlier and that guy doesn’t win.
I’m still not going to Google “Young Boy”.
….and here comes the FBI

The Price is Right… at night. I’m okay with this.
As a fan you know you’re fucked when your team has to announce that Coach Nagy and GM Pace have been retained for the following year.
Chicago sports teams exist for one reason. Rampant alcoholism.
This is the closest I will ever get to a banner quote.
And now Toronto playing bad defensively? It’s like hockey knew just what to get me. Only thing we need now is a season ending Steven Stamkos injury and we’re all the way back, baby!
As to the convo about stadia. I have been to some real shitholes for football.
Metrodome
Kingdome
Oakland Coliseum
Sun Devil Stadium
Qualcomm Stadium
Taylor Field (Regina)
Winnipeg Stadium
Saw the Expos in Olympic Stadium, what a dump.
Sun Devil for ASU vs Nebraska for a Fiesta Bowl game
Rams at both the Colosseum and Angels Stadium
One Bears game at Solder Field where our seats were so close to the field that we couldn’t see the game when the players stood up.
Old Soldier Field end zone in 10F -10F chill. Everyone clapping with gloved hands. Lots of thudding sounds. Fortunately the Bears didn’t do much to be cheered for. Mid 1970s. Probably against the Vikings but not certain.
The 1987 Panda Game (Carleton/Ottawa U) at Landsdowne Stadium in Ottawa was brutal. The railing gave way and a good friend of mine fell head-first onto the concrete below. She fractured her skull and wasn’t right for a long period afterwards.
I drove past McMahon Stadium once. Unfortunately the Stamps were not in town that day.
Anyone old enough to have seen a WHA game? The dad got tickets thru an ice cream company and I was able to see Messier, Frank Mahovlich, Paul Henderson, Dave Keon and Michel Goulet-and those are just the Hall of Famers.
Winnipeg Jets as a real wee lad. Apparently they just gave me popcorn and I was content.
Jets were too big a ticket to get-Hull, Hedberg and Nilsson. Man, that line tore up the league! And don’t forget about Lars-Erik Sjoberg!
Okay, time to party! PAC and Kingston! But, lets not forget the Bunny.

Tay Conti has a tremendous rear view. Dang!!
Penguins crying while they’re losing big? Good to see hockey is back to normal.
The zamboni simply has to re-distribute Sidney’s tears in order to re-do the ice during intermissions.
More Yinzer salt? I look forward to UrinatingTree going… what’s beyond nuclear, plaid?

We’s MOAR LIEK Canadia’s dirty butthole at present
The Wolfies getting pummalated by the Semen Holes.
I turned TV off, retreated to Football Manager (28 Feb 2080!) at 28-13.
Didn’t even bother watching Cuse/Tar Fuckers last night because I knew the L was automatic.
Well, the NHL is off to a flying start. I have been to games in Anaheim, Los Angeles (Forum), Tampa Bay, Columbus and Philadelphia.
I’ve only been to Denver. But Seattle will be on the list by end of this year. (Hopefully)
I’ve been to Pittsburgh ( the old Civic Arena, aka the Igloo) Tampa, Nashville, and Anaheim. And a couple of minor league ones.
My minor league hockey includes the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in Allentown, PA and the Phoenix and Tucson Roadrunners. Yes, I am old enough to have seen the Roadrunners in Phoenix. Semi-pro Fond du Lac Bears and Janesville Jets.
I saw the Phoenix Roadrunners back in the day! Brett Gretzky played there!. Been to all Canadian rinks cept Ottawa. Been to Phoenix, L.A., Anaheim, Florida. Best one was Montreal against the Leaves for a stag.
Man, the old Veteran’s Memorial Colosseum inside the fairgrounds. Saw the Suns there too.
Always think of that when I drive from my folks place in Sun City to the airport. What a barn.
Johnstown Jets and Jacksonville Lizard Kings( for real, it was a thing!) The Johnstown Jets played in the arena they filmed Slapshot in. Saw lots of concerts there too. I’m pretty sure I told you guys my Slapshot stories, they filmed some of it in my hometown, and Paul Newman ran into my mother in law’s car when he was there.
I’ve been to one Geographically Disparate Whalers match, when my then-wife got to use the corporate skybox. Don’t recall who won, but there was a cool fight.
Funny hockey fight story. We were at a Janesville Jets game (league is the first stop after players get drafted out of school).
We were standing at the glass, waiting for a faceoff to drop. One player said to the other “are you ready to go?” Puck drops, followed quickly by sticks and gloves. Said players start whaling on each other. Remember, its not fake, its scripted.
Went to an Elmira Jackals game years ago with the ex and her family. The opponent, I do not remember, but the 2 reams hated each other. Was more like a battle Royale between brief moments of actual g
Game play, was 4 on 4 by the end of the second period as everyone else had been ejected.
That’s proper fightin!
All I’ve seen is an exhibition game at the Mausoleum between the Isles and Devils. It was a school field trip that had something to do with math worksheets.
This is the kind of very odd, off topic thread I come to this site for!
I went to a Kings-Blackhawks game back in about 1975. Been to a few of the various San Antonio teams minor league games over the years (Iguanas & Rampage). Before Duncan got them to build the AT&T Center, the hockey was played at the Joe Freeman Coliseum (built 1949). Quite a dump. I’ve seen everyone from Judas Priest in the 1970s to Nickleback/Chevelle (GF insisted) 15 years ago.
Nickleback makes you an honorary Canadian. You can move there tomorrow and get full citizenship.
I wonder, as a San Antonian who works for the USAF in San Antonio, and has worked from home for 13 months, if I could get away with WFH if I lived in Moose Jaw. VPN access might be a little tricky.
https://www.denverbroncos.com/news/broncos-agree-to-terms-with-george-paton-to-become-general-manager
My Prediction? He’ll have a fair amount of success but will be fired after he slaps an injured player.
His inevitable biopic titled simply “Paton” will be well regarded but overly long and sometimes boring.
Instead of saving Lipizzaners, he’ll save Broncos?
She seems gritty.
