INT. RECORDING STUDIO – DAY
TRENT GREEN sits in front of a microphone, glancing around the room with some trepidation, taking in his surroundings. He reaches up, feeling a set of headphones covering his ears. He glances up to see the PRODUCER tapping on the glass of the studio window.
PRODUCER: [through headphones] Okay, we’ve got our first caller on line 1. I’m putting him through.
CALLER: Hi Trent!
TRENT: [neutral, but friendly enough] Hi.
A brief pause.
CALLER: Am I on the air?
TRENT: [notices the PRODUCER frantically nodding] You sure are!
CALLER: So I was hoping you could play a song for me.
TRENT: Well, I’m not in the business of saying no…
CALLER: But I’m a little confused about the theme. I gotta be honest, the intro was kind of cryptic.
TRENT: Mmm, let’s say abstract. But hey, let’s try this. How about you explain what your take is on the theme? There’s no wrong answer.
CALLER: Uh, sure. So you were talking about writing things down, and remembering things, and mentioned Proust, so I took it to mean that this week’s theme is songs about memory and the passage of time.
TRENT: Hey, that’s great! I like it, I really do. So what can I play for you this fine Sunday morning?
CALLER: Tuesday afternoon.
TRENT: From Days of Future Past? Sure, you bet, Moody Blues are a great band…
CALLER: No, I mean it’s actually Tuesday afternoon. Right now.
TRENT: Ha ha, sure, sure. Of course it is. I’m so used to doing the games for CBS it’s kind of automatic. You didn’t call to talk about football, did you?
CALLER: Uh, no, not really. Was just hoping to hear a song.
TRENT: [sees that he is getting a double thumbs up from the PRODUCER] Well, looks like the segment producer says it’s okay, so let’s do it. What can I play for you?
CALLER: Let’s go with a little “Younger Us” by the Japandroids?
TRENT: Can do. Let there be rock.
