Edition 3

We have Snaxx Episode 4 where we travel to Thailand, back to the Philippines, Brazil and finally Egypt.

Recently in the Cola household we’re trying to curb the intake of snacks so my only solace is the snack of the month box my wife bought me for Christmas. Lately we’ve had some hits and some misses as usual. I usually store the wrappers by my bar but we have a lovely lady clean our place once a month and she continues to throw them away. I usually roll back in here and find them in the trash, and store them again. I wonder if she thinks the place is neglected due to snack bags stacked neatly in a corner for a reason!

Here we go;

Suthera – Thai Coconut Roll with Natural Banana – Thailand.

I’m always skeptical of manufactured fruit flavoUrs (looking at you Strawberry), and also am not the biggest fan of coconut but it’s growing on me. These sticks were absolutely fantastic. They’re light, do not have that fake fruit taste, and are slightly sweet with no overpowering flavoUr. I once did a 3 day cooking class in Chang Mai and the chef always preached balance. Balance between all tastes is the key to Thai cooking, and life in general if you think about it. These are balanced and delicious.

I would 100% buy these again if I came across them in an international market.

Tasto – Salt and Sour Chips – Thailand

Like the reputation for their cuisine, the Thais certainly know what works. These chips are great, you get a little bit of sour at 1st and then salty goodness to finish. I easily could house a big bag of these with some Singha beer. Please always drink Singha, never drink Chang. They taste very similar but the hangover difference is measurable. When visiting that glorious country I was told this and of course thought it was a backpacker wives tale. Dear reader, it is not. Beer Chang wrecks your brain, bodily functions and takes away your will to do anything the next day. If you happen to be in that part of the world Beer Lao is where it’s at. They still use the German purity laws for it and it’s delicious.

Baked Cheezy Puffs – Sweet Butter & Cheese – Philippines

We have ourselves another snack from Manny Pacquaio-ville (legit spelled that correct the 1st time). Like a boxing match this was a split decision. I thought that they were absolutely repulsive with a weird dust. I spit out the 1st one as the sweetness with the cheese was very off-putting. Mrs. Cola loves when I have snacks that repulse me as she really enjoys laughing at my pain. Normally we have the same taste in snacks, however in this case she loved them and ate the rest of the bag. Now, this could be due to the lack of junk food in the house or that she really enjoyed them. She did state that she would eat them again. I 100% would not. The Folks from the islands love spaghetti but they love it sweet. We have a lot of Filipinos in my city and they have their fast food chains and massive grocery stores. I have tried the sweet spaghetti and it is also repulsive, not recommended.

Delicitos – Sabor Pimenta – Brazil

I like spicy, not Senor Weaselo spicy but enjoy heat. I had hoped that these would bring some and I was wrong. They’re kind of like corn nuts that were in a truck passing by a jalapeno farm and didn’t stop in. I ate them but was not impressed and they got a bit gummy after a while. The picture on the bag gave me so much promise but in the end it was a disappointment. I wouldn’t buy these again and remember that packaging lies.

Tiger Chili & Lemon Chips – Egypt

Two lemons on the package, interesting. When you first taste these you totally get that hit of sour right away then a bit of heat on the end. They are really unlike any potato product I have ever tasted. I did a bit of investigating and the Egyptians like to pickle lemons and eat them sliced, rind and all. With this knowledge these chips make perfect sense and are exactly what you would expect. I don’t think I would buy them again but they’re passable when you’re high.

Speaking of which, I went to my local purveyor of cannabis and noticed that there were many strands on special for a lot lower price than usual. I asked why this was and he explained that the big companies are coming out with value brands for their excess product. This has led to a price war and 7g (14 oz) of good Canadian Sativa is 35 CAD tight now. Like most things you do get what you pay for however this is fantastic value.

Stay safe, wear a mask and thank you all for being part of DFO as it has helped me this year as I have basically become a shut in. Have a great night drink all the booze, I have some good wines picked out and a beef tenderloin ready to rock after my half day at work!

As always; this one is for Balls, who owns a shirt with Nae rolls on it;

Glen Moray makes a decent inexpensive single malt Scotch. I’m enjoying their sherry cask finish now.

Horatio Cornblower

I haven’t seen the American military surprised like that by an aerial attack since 2001.

I’m only now realizing how many NFL head coaches currently are named Matt. And that’s even after Patricia got shit-canned.
