Dear NFL Network,

Seeing as you are televising this week’s Thursday Night Football game featuring the hapless San Diego Chargers against the resurgent and will be a force to contend with next year Oakland Raiders, I would like to make a simple humble request:

CAN YOU PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF WHATEVER DEITY OR NON-DEITY YOU WORSHIP OR NOT WORSHIP, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE KEEP THE FOLLOWING REFERENCES DOWN TO A MINIMUM:

This could be the LAST Raiders home game EVER at Oakland

Fuck you, it’s not.  Even if the Raiders were to ask to move and even if that were approved by the owners, which is not assured as there is dissension as to who should be allowed to move to LA, there is no stadium in LA for them to play in.

NONE

There is no new stadium built.  I have worked my whole career in construction and building projects.  A new stadium does NOT get built in 9 months.  The nearest estimates published say the stadiums would be ready in 2018 or 2019 at the earliest.  That’s assuming they can get over the fact that the Carson site is literally a toxic dump!   Have you ever smelled methane?  Repeatedly?  For over the course of 4-5 hours?  Yeah, have fun at THAT stadium.  And for those of you that scoff and say the site will be cleaned (in 18 months, say the estimates!), I say to you that I have personally visited sites with methane trapped underneath that is released via the types of vents and pipes that they are proposing for the Carson site.  I will only say that there are good days and there are BAD days.

There is no temporary home.  The Rose Bowl and three other possible stadium sites have been effectively ruled out as temporary homes.  USC has a clause in their contract that only allows ONE NFL team to use the Coliseum concurrently with them.  You are trying to tell me that the NFL will play a game of musical chairs to see who gets to move in 2016?  HA!

That internal fight is brewing at the NFL owners’ meetings to be held soon.  It will not be pretty and, unless they want to split the ownership into factions, I don’t see any reasonable option other than tabling the discussion until next year.

That would effectively allow the NFL to save face and to not have three lame-duck teams continuing to play at their old sites with the fans knowing they are going to leave and not showing up and/or protesting.

The Los Angeles Bowl! Future Stadium-mates!

Fuck you.  I know that the Chargers, Rams, and Raiders are the three teams with stadium situations that “need” addressing.  At least according to billionaire standards.  As I noted above, though, it’s an interesting game where everyone is looking only after themselves but pretending to be willing to team up in order to get what they want.  If the Raiders really wanted to share a stadium, they would have done that with the 49ers in Santa Clara.  The Raiders are too damn proud to share a stadium.

The Rams are seemingly locked into the Inglewood stadium proposal, assuming that the various governments in St. Louis don’t grab their ankles and tell Stan Kroenke not to use lube.  Which is not a possibility to be discounted!  Corruption in Missouri?   You don’t say!

Which leaves the sad little Chargers.  As I was mentioning to Rikki-Tikki-Deadly over pre-holidays drinks yesterday (Namedrop!  BAM!), Rivers is almost done.  The team is down on the dumps.  I think Marmalard plays one last pathetic year, cranks out another kid, and calls it a career.  So then, you are going to bring a QB-less team with a shitty offense and a crappy defense and you expect Los Angelenos to show up to see THAT?   In Inglewood?!?  YEAH RIGHT!  Carson maybe.  That toxic dump of a team deserves a toxic dump site.

What WILL happen

No one will play anywhere but where they are currently playing in 2016.  They will buy themselves another year to fleece the communities where they currently reside.  I have no doubt that City Councilmen and other government officials in the Oakland, St. Louis, and San Diego areas will come up with some way of keeping the teams there at taxpayer cost.  If your parents didn’t teach you already, here is the lesson:

I have no doubt that the people of those communities are good people.  They are also incredibly stupid for not reigning in their elected leaders and making them accountable.  Ultimately, they will get what they deserve.

PS:  In the off-chance that the City Councils of Carson and Inglewood manage to out-evil those of San Diego and St. Louis, the Chargers will go to Carson and the Rams to Inglewood.  The Raiders will go to the Coliseum.

And all three teams will want to move away within 10 years because they cannot make money because LA does not support losers.

PPS:  Bring Mike Mayock back!!

PPPS:  I swear I was going to link to Punte’s klassik Mike Mayock porn draft post but the shitheads at Uproxx ruined it by taking out the pictures.   Just. So. Stupid.

Balls somehow lost his bio and didn't realize it. He's now scrambling to write something clever and failing. He likes butts, boobs, most things that start with the letter B, and writing in the Second Person. Geelong, Toluca, Barcelona, and Steelers, in that order.

My goal in 2016 is to:
– punch at least 5 politicians in the balls
– pummel an incredibly rich person with a sock full of quarters

Fuck the NFL, if it weren’t for you fucking magnificent bastards on this site, and the fact that 8 Ravens home games gets me away from the family, I would have forgotten about pro football years ago.

blaxabbath

Well, yeah, Football is Family.

jjfozz

Seriously, it’s getting so you can’t ignore how fucking shit this sport has become: concussions, murderers, wife beaters, child beaters, drunk drivers, flat out assholes, referees, greedy shitbag owners, cheaters getting away with it, more concussions, players left broken for the rest of their lives, a shitlord commissioner who sucks more owner dick than 20 Linda Lovelaces ever could, outrageous ticket prices, announcers who are completely without talent, and of course, Patriots fans.

blaxabbath

You’re going to LOVE the Golden Football League — it’s all the hateable, can’t-look-away drama of the NFL, without any of the characters being real or the games actually happening.

I’m thinking of doing articles using court reporter-esque sketches of the events discussed in the articles, since, you know, they don’t actually happen.

Don T

That serms loke a pretty representative cross-section of society. Even more if you add cheerleaders who are ogled for free.

“Have you ever smelled methane? Repeatedly? For over the course of 4-5 hours?”

No, I have not been to a game at the Oakland Coliseum but hope to make it out for one next season.

WCS

That’s not weed, that’s PCP.

Old School Zero

That’s not PCP, it’s turpentine.

montythisseemsstrangetome

That’s not turpentine, it’s Soylent Green.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Ah, so THAT’S what they were talking about when the guys at the tailgate asked me if I wanted to “get wet”. I thought they were talking about the weather!

dozerdude

Couldn’t be methane. It’s odourless. (Yes, Canadian)

Don T

Seems legit. Honestly though: if you don’t live in the city / area of your team, how big a deal is their relocation? I mean, on a personal level, not by vicariously sympathizing with the shafted home fans.
I’d still follow the team.

“Human beings can adapt to pretty much anything.”

Nailed it — as we approach our ritual of spending billions of dollars to decide which sociopaths will be elected to head America’s reasonable foreign policy, domestic social programs spending, and environmental protection programs.

Happy holidays.

As you also mentioned, the vote to approve the relocation would have been a shitload easier if it was just one team applying. Since there are three teams applying you have owners aligning themselves with three different factions and it could be a great big clusterfuck of a vote.
I like to think they can see the city of San Diego actually trying this time and give them a chance.

The Chargers need to stay in San Diego and I’m not sure that LA even wants the Raiders back.

Just over the course of the last few weeks I have begun to feel that the Rams may actually be coming to Inglewood.
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-inglewood-nfl-stadium-20151221-story.html

I have been around this town since well before the Rams and Raiders left and this is the first time that some of the usual doubters have begun to say it will happen. As Balls said the Carson site, while absolutely geographically perfect is going to be a non-starter. It was a toxic waste dump for years and when an EIS was ran a few years back the first time it was proposed it didn’t even come close to passing. The Inglewood site makes sense and if Asshat Kroenke is willing to build the stadium without taxpayer dollars then I think it can get done.

The poor Chargers and Raiders are left swinging in the wind.
I do think the Chargers can finally get something together for a proposal but the Raiders never even bothered.
Maybe Rikki and DTZM can get beers together to welcome “Your St. Louis Raiders!”

Would this man lie to you?

I still say Georgia Frontiere was hot. Judge away.

laserguru

This could also be my own selfishness talking. If the Inglewood thing goes through I could make a left out of my driveway, go about 100 feet and turn right on Imperial Highway, go about 3 1/2 miles east, turn left on Prairie and less than a mile north turn right on Century.
It’s less than 5 miles to the stadium from my house.

Holy shit I could ride a bike to the games.

jjfozz

Plus, when you leave the stadium completely blacked out, there are good odds you will wake up close to your house. The bike, of course, will be gone.

A Response From the NFL to Ballsofsteelandfury:

FUCK YOU

Kungjitsu

I have no actual knowledge or insight into this, but I think Stan Kroenke just wants to GTFO of Mizzoruh. And LA looks like it would be a great spot. He’ll show up at the stadium and leave the stadium in an armored vehicle and never have to actually be outside in Inglewood, so he doesn’t give a shit.

This reminds of when the Jaguars were leaving for London. Because Jerry Jones and Bob Kraft and the rest of the owners would have been totally cool with the newest member of their club buying in for $800 million and instantly flipping it into a $4 billion franchise by moving from the fourth or fifth biggest city in Florida to the most cosmopolitan city in the whole fucking world. Billionaires are greedy narcissists. They just want what’s best for the team.

Old School Zero

There’s only a methane problem there because BOLTMAN needed somewhere to bury the bodies.

The Right Reverend Electric Mayhem

I hear BOLTMAN’s lines in DUFFMAN’s voice. It’s a bit jarring.

blaxabbath

I thought one of the write ups had it as some kind of deep soul-crushing screech. Kind of an evil duffman, I guess, is how I hear it.

I also like how he has different facial expressions. Is this an annual thing where they change it? Or is his face just one more trait of “Any Given Sunday”?
