AFL Beat 2020 Season Semi Finals Recap

This week…

We have Preliminary Finals Matchups!

Welcome to Balls of Steel’s AFL Beat!

We only had two games this week as the season is coming to an exciting conclusion. Let’s get right to them!

Richmond Tigers 80 v St. Kilda Saints 49 at Metricon Stadium

The Tigers started the game strong and didn’t let up.  They led throughout and the Saints didn’t have a chance.

Geelong Cats 100 v Collingwood Magpies 32 at The Gabba

This was almost a repeat of the Richmond-Saints game except the Pies couldn’t keep it close.  It was a very pleasant surprise when I woke up on Saturday morning!

Here is where we are after Finals Week TWO:

There is still life in the three dog race between Dolph Ucker, BFC, and SonOfSpam for the coveted gently-used fleshlight as BFC and Spam both got 2 out of 2 while Dolph Ucker only got a 1!  In the meantime, a hearty well done to Sunrisesunrise for passing BC Dick in the standings after posting another 2 for 2!  There are still some tight battles for positioning and there are three games left.  A lot of things can still happen!

Please keep in mind that the Footy Tipping Contest continues through the Grand Final so I remind you, as always,

DON’T FORGET TO PUT THE FOOTY TIPS IN!

Without further ado, it’s

Balls’ Sechs

1- I think the Richmond-St. Kilda game went pretty much as everyone expected, even Litre_cola.  The Saints really shot their wad last week against the Doggies and the refractory time was too much for them to be able to repeat the effort and the victory.

2- In the other game, I did not expect to wake up on Saturday morning, check my phone and see that the Cats had blown out the Pies by 68.  I know Scotchy is happy they didn’t score one more point.

3- The Preliminary Finals are now set with three feline teams still alive.  There is still a chance for an all-feline final.

4- The Power beat the Tigers by 21 (93-72) at Adelaide Oval back in Round 11 while the Cats beat the Lions by 27 (73-46) back in Round 6.  However,  the teams that lost the regular season game have won the rematch in 5 out of the 6 finals played so far. St. Kilda beating the Western Bulldogs twice was the only exception.

5- The first Preliminary Final between Port Adelaide and Richmond figures to be an extremely close game.  I think it comes down to the final two minutes with the Power barely holding on at the end.

6- The second Preliminary Final is a little more difficult to predict.  My heart is clouding my judgment and says that the Cats can win it and make it to the Grand Final.  However, the Lions will have the home crowd behind them and will be extra motivated to get a home Grand Final.  The game will be decided by which team executes best in pressure situations.  It will come down to the last few minutes and I have no idea who will win.

Balls somehow lost his bio and didn't realize it. He's now scrambling to write something clever and failing. He likes butts, boobs, most things that start with the letter B, and writing in the Second Person. Geelong, Toluca, Barcelona, and Steelers, in that order.

WhyEaglesWhy

I made an exacta bet on Brisbane defeating Richmond in the Grand Final and I feel very good about it. I feel sorry for myself and Balls.

Also, seriously, this finals nomenclature is out of control. I was watching the Lakers/Heat and Mrs. WEW asked “is this the finals?” and I had no idea how to answer her.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Oh man I can’t wait for Regional Finals to start!

/but seriously, it’s pretty hilarious how many rounds of “finals” they have.

WhyEaglesWhy

And “semi-finals” two rounds before the Grand Final. WTF.
